The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department announced it will not print its standard run of paper applications for paddlefish, spring turkey and special buck seasons this year. GFP encourages individuals interested in applying for the three seasons to apply online at gfp.sd.gov/hunt-fish-license.
In 2016, 24,041 applications were received for these seasons. Of that total, only 6 percent were submitted using paper applications.
For now, these three applications are the only ones that will not be printed this year. GFP will monitor customer input and feedback to help chart the course for future paper applications. A small number of paper applications will still be available at regional wildlife offices.
The online application period for spring turkey opened Jan. 16, and the first deadline is Feb. 16.
The application period for all three of the state’s paddlefish seasons also opened Jan. 16. The application deadline for the Lake Francis Case paddlefish season is Feb. 16, while the deadlines for the Gavins Point Dam archery and snagging seasons are April 13 and May 18, respectively.
Application information for the 2018 special buck season is not yet available.
